What is acid reflux?

Acid reflux is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest and throat. There are also different types of acid reflux, sometimes known as silent acid reflux where people may have problems swallowing or damage to the vocal chords. While there are many medications available to cover up the pain from acid reflux, some people prefer to use natural remedies, such as magnesium or herbs such as those found inside of PyloPurge..

What is magnesium?

Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in many bodily functions, including muscle and nerve function, blood pressure regulation, and bone health. It is responsible for over 1000 enzymating reactions in the body. It is also known to have a calming effect on the body, which may help to reduce the symptoms of acid reflux. Magnesium has become increasingly difficult to get from our food supply, so many people are finding themselves magnesium deficient.

Can magnesium help reflux and GERD?

Several studies have investigated the use of magnesium for acid reflux, with promising results.

One study published in the Journal of Research in Medical Sciences found that magnesium supplementation significantly reduced the severity and frequency of acid reflux symptoms in patients with GERD.

Another study published in the Journal of Digestive Diseases and Sciences found that magnesium hydroxide, a common antacid that contains magnesium, was effective in reducing acid reflux symptoms in patients with GERD.

So how does magnesium work to reduce acid reflux symptoms? We’re not quite sure! One theory is that magnesium helps to relax the muscles that control the opening and closing of the esophagus, allowing food and stomach acid to pass through more easily.

Magnesium may also help to MAKE stomach acid, and often acid reflux is actually caused by acid insuficiency where the body cannot make enough acid, due to for example, a H Pylori bacteria infection..

While magnesium is generally considered safe, it is important to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements, especially if you have a medical condition or are taking medication. High doses of magnesium can cause unwanted side effects such as diarrhea  and may interact with certain medications, such as antibiotics and diuretics.

How to take magnesium?

If you are interested in trying magnesium for acid reflux, we recommend youtake magnesium supplements. The best forms of magnesium are supplements that contain multiple types of magnesium, such as magnesium citrate, and magnesium glycinate.

In conclusion, magnesium may be a safe and effective natural remedy for acid reflux.

While more research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms of action, several studies have shown that magnesium supplementation and antacids containing magnesium can help to reduce the severity and frequency of acid reflux symptoms.

As with any supplement or medication, it is important to talk to your doctor before taking magnesium for acid reflux, especially if you have a medical condition or are taking medication.
